Your guide to Inmarsat Fleet One in Australian Waters

Inmarsat Fleet One Coastal is the go to service for many small fishing operations across Oceania, offering low cost data in popular fishing waters close to shore, as well as global voice services. However, this year saw the introduction of Fleet One Global, so we wanted to spell out the differences to our customers and offer a quick rundown of which service is best suited to the different operational needs of a variety of vessels.

The Fleet One Coastal service was launched in 2015 by Inmarsat and introduced a regional coverage map highlighting the coastal regions where small leisure and fishing vessels can access data speeds up to 100 kbps at the same time as using a single voice line.

The service is available in three post-pay plans from the Entry plan offering 10MB and 30 minutes call time, to the High plan offering 50MB and 120 minutes. With a three month minimum commitment, the service is ideal for seasonal users of small vessels* with a requirement for light data services around Australia’s coastlines, especially between Australia and New Zealand.  For users not wanting to undertake a subscription, prepay vouchers are available for the service in 50-5000 unit options.

Following on from the success of Fleet One Coastal, Inmarsat launched Fleet One Global in June 2016, providing an enhanced offering with data service coverage expanded globally. The Fleet One Global plan provides access to a monthly inclusive voice and data bundle with increased flexibility for seasonal users due to its one month minimum commitment.

Commercial vessels, deep sea fishing and leisure vessels with modest data requirements can all take advantage of the Fleet One Global plan, accessing their basic applications via a data connection of up to 100kbps and also enjoy global voice services to keep in touch with dry land. In addition, similar prepay options apply, with voucher options from 50-5000 units.
