Inmarsat has recently announced changes to its leading BGAN land mobile service for remote voice and data communications. Please read on to get the latest on BGAN postpay, prepay and streaming services available to customers and partners in Oceania.
BGAN HDR Bonded Streaming Discount
Calling all broadcasters! We are delighted to announce a new discount offer for users of the BGAN HDR streaming service.
Satcom Global can provide customers with up to 25% discount off BGAN HDR streaming services, where two full channel HDR sessions are bonded. By bonding (or combining) HDR services, the standard throughput of 650kbps can be doubled, providing users with access to a streaming service to rival VSAT solutions for broadcasting.
To bond terminals, and qualify for the bonded service offer, the following rules apply;
- Two HDR-enabled BGAN Terminals are required for bonding: namely the Cobham EXPLORER 710 or the Hughes 9211-HDR
- The HDR calls must be made by SIMs from within the same BGAN SCAP (Shared Corporate Allowance Plan)
- Only full channel HDR is eligible for the discount
- The HDR calls must be made from the same location and GPS will verify this
- Only the overlapping portion of the bonded calls will be discounted
BGAN Geographic Plans
Inmarsat has announced that Geographic plans are now configured as ‘money bundles’ allowing users to use their allowance for a range of voice and data services, and not just Standard IP as previously advertised.
BGAN Geographic plans enable users to take advantage of special geographic pricing for use of a mobile BGAN service when used within specific locations, and the change to a ‘money bundle’ makes them more flexible than ever. Although there is not an Australian Geographic Plan at present, we urge customers in Oceania to contact us if a requirement for remote communications in China, South America or Africa should arise.
BGAN Prepaid Vouchers
A new range of BGAN prepaid vouchers launched 1st April, with changes to unit amounts, pricing and validity. The new vouchers include:
Inmarsat has advised that the existing BGAN voucher portfolio will remain available for purchase until 31st May 2016. GlobalNet will be updated with new voucher prices soon, but in the meantime, please contact your account manager for more details.
