Iridium GMDSS is the first and only 'truly global' GMDSS solution, with the global Iridium NEXT satellite constellation providing coverage even over the Arctic and Antarctic waters of Sea Area A4.
Iridium GMDSS allows ships to send definitive location and identification information to a Rescue Coordination Centre (RCC), and with built in Safety Voice, speak to an RCC operator within 30 seconds of pressing the red distress button. In addition, Iridium SafetyCast proactively delivers important navigational and meteorological information to the vessel, to advise of hazards and support safety measures.
The service is delivered by the small and lightweight LT-3100S GMDSS terminal, developed by leading manufacturer of maritime safety equipment, Lars Thrane. For the first time in history, mariners can sail in confidence with a global GMDSS service that has them covered, across all oceans of the world.
